MAYFIELD MUSE / / LUCY HUGHES FOUNDER OF ANTICO HOME

For our first feature of 2025, we sit down with Lucy Hughes, founder of Antico Home, whose timeless aesthetic and passion for vintage design have quickly captured the attention of interior lovers everywhere.

Lucy Hughes, Founder of Antico Home

Founded: June 2024

What was the spark that led you to turn your love for timeless interiors into a business?

Moving from Melbourne to Perth in early 2024 was a big change. I had time to explore new creative outlets and found myself drawn to vintage and antique homewares. I loved the idea of bringing beautifully designed pieces into my space, but high-quality finds often came with inaccessible price points. Antico Home was born from a desire to offer designs that stand the test of time at a more approachable cost.

What drew you to the word Antico, and how does it reflect the spirit of your collection?

Antico is the Italian word for 'antique.' I wanted something simple, memorable, and reflective of the brand's aesthetic.

If you were introducing Antico Home to someone for the first time, what three words would you use to describe it?

Timeless, Chic, Luxurious.

Is there one piece from the collection that holds a special place in your heart?

The Fiore Vase. It's substantial—6kg of sculptural beauty—and has so much character. It holds flowers beautifully but also stands alone as a statement piece. While the clear version is our bestseller, I love it in 'Smoke' for its added warmth and depth.

Who are your style icons?

For interiors, I adore the homes of Olive Cook (@filesfrom45) and Chloe Tozer (@villa_desfleurs). In fashion, I always look to Dani Michelle (@danixmichelle)—her work with Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber is consistently flawless.

Where do you find inspiration?

Instagram and TikTok. There's an endless stream of talent on these platforms, and when you're in tune with the right content, the inspiration is limitless.

What's the most interesting thing you've read or listened to recently?

Right now, I'm deep in small-business mode, so I love listening to Paul Waddy. For fiction, I'm obsessed with Freida McFadden's books—I've read nearly all of them.

Where would you go if you could pack a bag and escape to somewhere tomorrow?

In Australia, Noosa—specifically Bistro C for the seafood pasta (IYKYK). Beyond that, anywhere in Italy—Puglia, Sicily, or Rome are always at the top of my list.

There's always a moment that makes it feel worthwhile; what's your proudest career moment to date?

When Rozalia Russian (absolute queen!) shared my vase on Instagram after making a genuine purchase. She sold us out—twice!

What's next for Antico Home?

We're still so new (less than 12 months in), so there's a lot ahead. More beautiful pieces are on the way, and I'd love to collaborate with a brand this year.
