Thanks for taking the time to chat with us Mollie!
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hey! My name is Mollie, I’m 23, I grew up on a farm near Hamilton where I went to Baimbridge College. I then moved to Melbourne where I studied Interior Design at RMIT. I now work in South Melbourne. I love to read, sleep, go out for food and wine, and paint! Whenever I can I like to travel back to my parent’s property to relax and have a break from the city. I have a small studio space there where I create a varied array of artwork. I mostly paint or create what I’m drawn to, however I also do commissions.

What have you been creating lately?

Recently I have been doing a lot of pencil work, which can be challenging due to the detail, but I love a challenge! After the first covid lockdown I went to stay with my parents, and started limestone carving. At the beginning, I planned to just make one for myself, but once I started I found there were so many more designs I wanted to try. It’s something very different and outside my comfort zone – but I’m loving it! I also have taken on more commissions than ever this year – Which has been exciting. I think with people being at home more often they are appreciating the joy that something as simple as a piece of art can bring to the home.

Has anything inspired you or captured your attention lately?

I’m always listening to a podcast when I paint – mostly true crime (Australian True Crime), but I try to mix it up. I love the ‘listenABLE’ podcast hosted by Dylan Alcott, which talks to people living with a disability, and challenges societies perception on what it is like to live with a disability. I recently finished reading Where the Crawdads Sing which I would recommend – amazing imagery! I’ve been getting into Schitt's Creek on Netflix as an easy, funny show.

What pieces are you loving for summer and the warmer weather?

I am absolutely loving the Hut boyfriend shirts! They are such beautiful cool linen that is just so comfy and soft. Oversized shirts are a must have for me in the warmer months. I am also rarely seen without my Supergas. I am a big gold jewellery fan, so I really love the reasonably priced Jolie & Deen pieces to accessorise a simple look.

We love to support local, do you have a few favourite places to eat, drink or shop In your neighbourhood? Or around Geelong?

Whenever I come down to Geelong, I go straight to Mayfield, by far the best fashion retail! I also am a big coffee fan, so I grab myself a coffee from Butter and Co on the way. I also LOVE Boom gallery, they have some seriously amazing art featured and their Sunday café does an amazing brunch!

What are your plans for the summer holidays?

This Summer I hope to be spending a lot of time in Port Fairy, relaxing & reading. I’m looking forward to getting back into creating more limestone works! I also really want to make the most of all my favourite small businesses after what has been a crazy year, shopping local for Christmas this year!
