AHW #1: FLEUR WOOD
We're excited to introduce our new monthly journal series profiling some of the wonderful women who inspire us at Mayfield.
Fleur Wood is a stylist, creative and the founder of How To Wear It, a personal shopping and wardrobe editing service. Fleur travels all over for work and has recently relocated to the Surf Coast with her family. Fleur has also become a familiar face at Mayfield, regularly popping into the store to share some of the pieces she is loving on our Instagram.
Last week we were thrilled to launch our new in-store styling service with Fleur so we sat down for a chat to find out a little bit more about her, the wardrobe pieces she's been loving lately, and what she's been up to.
We hope you enjoy the conversation, and look forward to bringing you more over the next few months.
How have you been spending your days at home at the moment?
Well, usually after the chaos of breakfast with the little ones we get out of the house as soon as possible for a walk along the beach and coffee. Our puppy, Billy, most certainly encourages us to get out of the house too! Some mornings I escape for a run and solo coffee, which is heaven. Then it’s bed time for my one-year-old Pippa and my other daughter, Lily, and I sit down for an activity like making a puzzle, painting (not my favourite activity), crafting or learning a poem - she loves poems.
After that it's lunch time, which is hopefully outside if the weather is nice. Then it’s back out for another beach walk most days. In the afternoon whilst Pippa is sleeping Lily has a bit of down time watching Play School or Bluey and I try and squeeze in some work. We are also friends with our neighbours so we have a fence catch up most days too. I try and do housework when the girls are awake as my time in the afternoon is so precious so I need to keep it for work or mediation/yoga.
Then its dinner and bath with a wine in hand! Dad joins us at some stage, and we try and have some fun with a bit of dancing or another walk to the beach. Getting out of the house is the key, I have found. We are so fortunate to live so close to the beach - it really is so good for the soul and everyone’s mindset!
Do you have any recommendations on books, podcasts or TV shows you’ve been loving?
Oh my book list is a big one! I love reading and am currently reading a book a week. Here are my top 5 recent reads: Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton; Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman; The Eye of the Sheep by Sofie Laguna; Force of Nature by Jane Harper and The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty.
I don’t watch much TV but I did really enjoy Broadchurch - I love a bit of crime, and Sex Education for something light-hearted. But getting into bed with my kindle and a cup of tea is my idea of heaven.
What clothing items are you loving at the moment?
Jeans, cashmere jumpers and my ugg boots! I am definitely not an active wear gal! I need to get dressed each morning to have a good and productive day.
What’s one item that you would love to add to your wardrobe?
I am after the perfect winter coat and some new casual sneakers. I take my time these days with my purchasing decisions, so hopefully I can work out which jacket I want before winter is over! I am obsessed with the new Elka Collective Maribel Coat at the moment.
What have you been cooking while at home?
Curries, ragouts, soups and lots of banana muffins and cookies with Lily.
It’s a great activity but not so great for the waistline!
What is one thing you are looking forward to doing once isolation is over?
A big family lunch and going for wines with the ladies! Oh and I'm dying to see some live music!
Do you have a song that makes you feel happy?
This is hard one. Two songs I have on rotation at the moment are ‘I Get Up’ by The Tesky Bothers & ‘Beyond’ by Leon Bridges. Music is big part of my life…there is not really a time where there isn’t music playing in our house and the same goes for my childhood. Paul Kelly reminds me of growing up, so currently playing an older album of his.
