At Home With ... Daisy Gubbins

This week we chat with the gorgeous Daisy Gubbins. Daisy is the owner of two brilliant local businesses As Daisy Does and Urban Diddle and we love seeing her friendly face around the streets of Newtown! If you're ever in need of a bunch of flowers or some delightful homewares to brighten up your home, Daisy's got you covered! We hope you enjoy getting to know her a little bit.

Thanks for chatting with us Daisy, can you tell us a little bit about what you do?

My business sells super relaxed and fun flowers, indoor plants and a whole range of pots and homewares. We have also just launched a second business, Urban Diddle, in which we've designed our own range of homewares and planters for both wholesale and retail. I am basically drawn to anything that allows me a bit of creativity!

 Where do you live?

I currently live in Barwon Heads with my parents (riding the gravy train whilst I can) however am moving out soon. I love space around me (for a garden of course) and a bit of peace and quiet. My creativity is certainly reflected in my homewares collection and I cannot wait to start utilising them in styling my own home. Hand painted, handmade, vintage and one-off pieces definitely grab my attention … and a bit of colour!

Has your routine changed much over the past six months?

I am lucky that my routine didn’t change much at all! With delivery still an option I have been able to continue going to work and getting down and dirty with the flowers and plants. I also thought the gym being forced to close was a good thing at the time but can confidently say that I’m not thinking that anymore…my poor old body is very ready to start exercising again!

What clothing items have you been loving lately?

I have been living in the Elka Collective jumper I got from Mayfield and there is proof of this on my Instagram, it is THE warmest jumper I own! I also invested in a new pair of Blundstones which I have worn most days since, our shed is virtually a cool room so thick soles and warm socks are a must!

What are your favourite things to do at home?

I love playing with my plants! If it is a nice day, I can hang out on the verandah for hours potting and propagating. I also LOVE cooking! Bill Granger’s new Italian book is an absolute cracker, yet to have a miss. If I’m not on my feet, I’m on the couch designing and drawing pots for the new business.

What have you been reading/watching/listening to lately?

I haven’t been reading much, but I have just finished the ‘Who the Hell is Hamish?’ podcast. I always have a podcast on in the background when I’m working, and I often end up just staring into space and intently focusing on the podcast rather than doing any work at all. I am also in the midst of the ‘Gavin and Stacey’ TV show, it requires absolutely no thinking which is perfect after a day of work and an easy laugh.

We love to support local at Mayfield, what are some of your favourite local businesses?

I love Mayfield, it is probably one place I go if I ever get away from work. Otherwise Sunday cafe across the road from us is an absolute winner for a good coffee! ALMA in Geelong does THE best dinner and if I’m at my local in Barwon Heads it is always Coffetti Gelato

We’re making a playlist! Do you have a song that makes you feel happy?

I have a new song every week, recently I was driving everyone nuts with ‘I love a Rainy Night’ which my partner puts on a fair bit and now my sister has me hooked on ‘Circles’…I am really not fussy when it comes to music (as you can probably tell).
